Ten persons were arrested from Banda as the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police claimed to have busted an organised racket under which impersonators would sit in place of the actual candidates to help them crack examinations.
The racketeers used to charge Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh from the candidates for the job, a spokesperson of the STF said.
The spokesperson said that Banda-based Pandit Jawaharlal PG College was one of the centres for the Uttar Pradesh Combined Agriculture and Technology Entrance Test (UPCATET) examination organised by Meerut-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology.
"The STF got information about an organised racket of paper-solvers. The solvers took hefty amount of money from the candidates and appear on their behalf. A police team reached the college in Banda, and caught two kingpins of the racket -- Amar and Saleem," the spokesperson said.
Eight impersonators have also been arrested, the spokesperson said.
