Facing all round flak over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, the state government today removed Director General of Police AC Sharma.
Director General Provincial Armed Constabulary, DR Nagar will replace Sharma.
"DG, PAC DR Nagar will be the new DG of the state," a home department spokesman said.
Sharma has been sent to PAC in place of Nagar, the spokesman added.
The decision came two days after the Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the detention of a minor rape victim by police in Bulandshahr.
The apex court expressed its displeasure over the incident and has sought explanation form the UP government.
