A woman from Uttar Pradesh and her two children were found dead in a hotel here today, police said.
After being informed by the hotel staff, the police broke open the door and recovered the bodies of the 34-year-old woman from the room, Deputy Superintendent of police Sashibhusan Satpathy said.
Hotel records showed that the woman hailed from Lui Road of Mathura in UP. Her daughter was aged around 12 years and son five.
The woman's husband, Amit Agarwal, who is absconding, is suspected to be behind the incident believed to have occurred on Friday, Satpathy said.
While investigation was in progress, there were indications that the trio might have been strangulated to death with the help of a 'dupatta', he said.
The family was on a pilgrimage to the sea side town and putting up in the private hotel since December 9. Agarwal had also made part payment of the hotel bill of Rs 15,000.
Agarwal's relatives in Mathura informed that the family was missing for the last four months and a report in this connection had been filed with the police in UP, he said.
Preliminary verification of materials showed the family had visited different pilgrim places in the country during the last four months before reaching Puri, he said.
