UP women's panel seeks report from cops in rape case

The Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission today sought a report from the DIG and the SSP of Lucknow in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a four-year-old girl in the Gomti Nagar area.
Commission chief Zarina Usmani decided to take up the matter with the police authorities following reports about the crime in a section of the media.
The commission has also written to the District Magistrate recommending adequate financial assistance for the vistim's family.
According to police sources, the minor, who was missing since Monday morning, was allegedly raped and brutally murdered by unidentified persons in the Gomti Nagar area.
The post-mortem report revealed that the victim had received over 50 stab wounds and suffered internal injuries, police added.
IG (law and order) RK Vishwakarma said that an FIR in the case has been registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) of the IPC against unidentified persons.
