The winter session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council today started on a stormy note with the opposition creating uproar over problems of cane farmers, leading to adjournment of the House for the day.
As soon as the House met for the day, members of main opposition BSP trooped into the Well on the plight of cane farmers and law and order issues.
BJP and RLD members raised the issue of hike in cane price, while Congress members voiced concern over non-implementation of food security scheme in the state.
As repeated requests by Chairman Ganesh Shanker Pandey for order did not yield results, he adjourned the House for an hour.
When the House reassembled, the Chairman announced that there would be no sitting on Friday. Saturday and Sunday being holidays, the House will now meet on Monday.
After this, members condoled the death of senior SP leader Mohan Singh and former MLC Samarpal Singh.
After the orbituary reference was over, opposition members once again stormed into the Well and raised anti-government slogans.
The Chairman then adjourned the House for the day.
