Unfit drivers are those who have been declared not fit for driving buses by the medical board due to ailments or accidents and the department assigns other duties to such employees.
However, some employees misuse the provision, UPSRTC Managing Director K Ravindra Naik said.
"Despite being fit, these employees get themselves declared as unfit by the medical board and withdraw the driver's salary from the department without driving buses," Naik said.
The decision was taken after a High Court order in this matter on August 15 which said all such employees should be sacked, Naik said.
Roadways Employees Union official Rajiv Kumar Tyagi and Organiser of Central Workshop Federation Gulshad Ali said they are consulting law experts on the issue.
