A new report shows the US government asked that the names of close to 2,000 Americans be revealed after their information was swept up in National Security Agency surveillance programs last year.
The report released yesterday says the identities of US citizens and legal permanent residents were found in 3,914 intelligence reports the NSA distributed last year.
The report comes amid President Donald Trump's claim that the Obama White House acted inappropriately in asking intelligence analysts to disclose names. Trump has said President Barack Obama's former national security adviser may have committed a crime.
The former Obama adviser says she did nothing wrong and that neither she nor other Obama officials used secret intelligence reports to spy on Trump associates for political purposes.
