The US has condemned the suicide blast near the Wagah-Attari border between India and Pakistan, which killed at least 61 people on the Pakistani side over the weekend, describing it as a senseless act of terror.
"We certainly condemn the senseless terrorist act at the Wagah border post on November 2nd. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those killed in the attack and wish those injured a quick recovery," State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters.
The US, she said, supports the Pakistani government's efforts to bring all those involved in planning and executing the attack to justice, and stands ready to provide any appropriate assistance to authorities investigating this tragic attack.
"We remain steadfast in our commitment to assisting the people of Pakistan in their efforts to counterterrorism, uphold the rule of law and build a peaceful future for themselves and their children," Psaki said in response to a question.
Over 100 were injured in the blast that had taken place when a large number of people were returning after attending the flag lowering ceremony at the main Indo-Pak land border crossing, which is heavily guarded by the Punjab Rangers.
A young suicide-bomber blew himself up near the main exit gate of Parade Avenue at 6.03 pm (local time), causing colossal devastation.
