US Congresswoman supports Muhajir cause

Expressing concern over the violation of human rights of Muhajirs in Pakistan's port city of Karachi, an influential Republican Congresswoman has assured the small community living in the US to raise their voice in the Congress and with other officials.
"We can have the witnesses (of human rights violations) come in to (Congressional) hearings, go to different think- tanks," Barbara Comstock told a meeting of World Muhajir Congress in a Virginia suburb of Washington DC on Sunday.
Economic development and education goes hand in hand, Comstock said after leaders of the World Muhajir Congress appraised her about the gross violation of human rights of their community in Pakistan and how they are being deprived of their economic development and education by the ruling establishment.

Local Republican leader from Virginia Puneet Ahluwalia said this is an important issue for the community.
"We have to make coalition of leadership here in the US and tell the American diplomats in Karachi to meet with the Mohajir leaders in Karachi to hear their views," he said.
Members of the Muhajir community living in and around Washington DC area have been meeting influential lawmakers and officials of the Trump Administration to apprise them of the ground realities in Karachi.
In October, they had a town hall with Congressman Rob Wittman, Chairman of important Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
Last week, a delegation of World Muhajir Congress presented a memorandum in this regard to Alice Wells, the Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia.
