The Ivanka Trump-led US delegation to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) slated to take place in Hyderabad in November, will be joined by 1500 entrepreneurs and investors from around the world, nearly half of whom would be women, an American diplomat today said.
The theme of the summit, co-hosted by India and the US is -- Women First, Prosperity for All, highlighting the critical role women play in fostering global growth and prosperity.
US Charge d Affaires in India MaryKay Carlson, addressing a group of select women entrepreneurs at the American Center here, said "the programme (AIRSWEEE) and training you folks have undergone echoes the objectives set forth for the GES".
AIRSWEEE (All India Roadshow on Women's Economic Empowerment through Entrepreneurship), a first-of its kind programme was initiated September last year with the objective of educating and inspiring women in small towns and tier-II cities, consider entrepreneurship as a viable career option.
The US Department of State and the California-based TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) Global joined hands to mentor 125 women by conducting skill development workshops in five cities -- Coimbatore, Warangal, Jaipur, Nagpur and Durgapur.
Twenty-five of them were further shortlisted, for the two-day Women Entrepreneurs Conclave, which kicked off here today. They will receive certificates tomorrow.

"This programme is the road to GES, a precursor to the GES and the theme also says it so. For the summit late November this year in Hyderabad (November 28-30), Ivanka Trump (Advisor to President Donald Trump) will lead a delegation of American CEOs, entrepreneurs and government officials.
"She would be joined by 1,500 talented entrepreneurs and investors from around the world, approximately half of whom would be women," Carlson said.
The GES was announced following the meeting of Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington early this year, and it would be a pre-eminent annual gathering of emerging entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders from around the world.
"The GES was conceived as a way to unite government and private sector partners and local businesses along with civil societies to help build successful entrepreneurial environment and support promising ideas.
"I admire the risk you take and your dedication to entrepreneurial ideas, and some of you have attracted funding, further highlights the success of this programme and the tremendous largely untapped potential of women entrepreneurs in India," the American envoy said.
Craig Dicker, Acting Public Affairs Officer at the US Embassy here, said, "India is a country bustling with potential, particularly among entrepreneurs, but it's largely untapped, especially with respect to women in tier-II cities. Based on the success of this programme, we (US state department) have decided to award grant for the next round of entrepreneurs as well, in 2018.
