Both countries stand to benefit significantly from increased commercial activity, US Embassy Charge D'Affairs Michael P Pelletier said at an American Chamber of Commerce event 'Avenues 2014'.
Quoting the US Secretary of State John Kerry's statement soon after Lok Sabha elections that they look forward to "strengthening our partnership based on common values, shared democratic traditions and the binding ties between our peoples", Pelletier said he is here to discuss just that.
"And to listen to both Indian and American suggestions from both the public and private sectors about ways India and the United States can work together to advance our mutual commercial interests. We are especially eager to work cooperatively with the new Indian government," he said.
Expressing the US' keenness to invest in India's growing defence sector, he said the US government with industry input has proposed a number of possible projects and looks forward to pursuing co-production and co-development initiatives of mutual interest.
"The key to enhancing our shared prosperity is the ability for both sides to sit down together to address the concerns in a frank and practical manner. The United States is committed to raising our level of communication and to taking concrete actions based on our respect for one another and understanding of the issues," he said.
