In the wake of the killings of five Indian soldiers along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, the US has expressed concern over the incident and said it was for India and Pakistan to determine the "pace, scope and character" of their bilateral talks on the Kashmir issue.
"We are aware of these unconfirmed reports and are concerned about any violence along the line of control," US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said when asked about the ambush in the Poonch sector in the state yesterday that left five Indian soldiers dead.
"The policy on Kashmir has not changed," Psaki told reporters.
"We still believe that the pace, scope and character of India and Pakistan's dialogue on Kashmir is for those two countries to determine," she said yesterday.
"We hope that India and Pakistan will continue the steps they've recently taken to improve their bilateral relations," Psaki said when asked if the US believes that the killing of the Indian soldiers will have an impact on the peace process.
