A 69-year-old man in the US has sold a rare 1963 Spider-Man comic for USD 7,900 at an auction - and it will now help him pay for his daughter's wedding!
Richard Schaen, from Cleveland Heights in Ohio, sold a well-preserved copy of 'Amazing Spider-Man' No 1, which he had bought when it came out in March 1963 for a mere 12 cents.
The retired electronics technician was a little concerned about the cost of his eldest daughter's pending nuptials until he remembered an old box of comic books he had stored away.
He listed the Spider-Man comic with Comiclink.Com, an auction company, and was happily surprised when it sold for USD 7,900, 'The Plain Dealer' newspaper reported.
"I gave my daughter a promissory note for the money with a picture of the Spider-Man comic, which we can use to pay for a big part of the catering for her reception," he said.
The condition of the comic was listed as a 6.5 on a scale of 10. A perfect copy could sell for three or four times more than that.
Schaen has decided to sell some of the remaining books for other venture. His first issue of 'Daredevil' Comics No 1 sold for USD 1,600, last week.
