The United States is preparing to withdraw its troops from Syria, US media reported Wednesday, a major move that throws into question America's role in the region.
A US defense official told CNN the US was planning a "full" and "rapid" withdrawal of troops. The Wall Street Journal said the withdrawal would be from northeastern Syria.
The Pentagon refused to comment. Currently about 2,000 US forces are in Syria.
