US, Russian defence officials hold talks on Syria

Defence officials from the US and Russia have held a secure video conference to discuss steps that can be taken by Russian and the counter-ISIL coalition aircraft to promote safe flight operations over Syria, the Pentagon said.
The talks were held yesterday, officials said.
"This was the third discussion focussed on steps that can be taken by Russian and counter-ISIL coalition aircraft to promote safe flight operations over Syria," Pentagon spokesman Capt Jeff A Davis said.
Progress was made during the discussions, which were professional and focused narrowly on the implementation of specific safety procedures, he said.
