The US State Department is designating the spokesman for the Islamic State group, which is launching an offensive in Iraq, as a terrorist.
The department today also applied the designation to an Algerian-born militant who fled house arrest in France in a stolen car and joined the al-Qaida linked group Nusra Front in Syria.
The actions prohibit Americans from doing business with Abu Mohammed al-Adnani ,who was born in Syria, and Said Arif, who is from Algeria, and freezes all property they have within US jurisdiction.
Both recently were added to the United Nations' terrorist list, requiring all member states to impose an assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo against the two.
