Renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan will be honoured by the Chicago university.
The university will also hold a retrospective of 71-year-old's three films as examples of best in Indian cinema, which is celebrating its 100th year.
Adoor's films, "Mathilukal" (Walls), "Vidheyan" (The Servile) and "Nizhalkkuthu" (Shadow Kill) would be screened from April 11 to 13, the director said in a release here.
A seminar on new Indian cinema would be held on April 13 in which academics and major critics would participate.
Following this event, the Adoor Gopalakrishnan Film Archive and Research Fund would be inaugurated at the Winsconsin University on April 15.
The Archive would collect all the films of Adoor in 35 mm format, blue ray discs and DVDs. This is for the first time an Indian film-maker is being honoured with an archive by a foreign university.
Adoor's films are already being studied at the Universities of Colorado and Yale as part of Asian cinema.
