Usha Uthup mentors as Kolkata gifts new gnre film music

Pop icon Usha Uthup and vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan have come together to mentor a new genre of Bollywood-based 'desi' music where sufi, Punjabi and Bangla folk tunes will all mere together to stir up a new medley, 'Bollywood Dance Music Festival.
Conceptualised by DJ Akash, one of the most celebrated in Kolkata's night club DJs, the festival, titled 'Desilicious' will dish out experimental fusion, electronic versus classical instrumentation,
"It is going to be hardcore Bollywood gharana and not re-mix types. Ustadji and Ushadidi have kindly consented to promote this genre of music. Their contrasting styles of rock and Hindustani classical vocals give an interesting backdrop to Desilicious, a bouquet of sorts. They will guide us in future. This is only the starting point" Akash told PTI.

Desilicious will have actor-model-former pageant winner Richa Sharma as its face.
"Richa, having also turned up opposite Govinda in a potboiler, is a known face across the country and will be the face of our musical initiative. The East's gift to the country's film hub," Akash said at the launch of the event in association with The Park.
Says Usha, "Entertaining people is most important thing for any performer. To make people enjoy the moment."
Concurs Ustad Rashid Khan "I extend my support for this event as it will make people fall in love with this fusion, which defines the new trend in music yet remains grounded to its Bollywood roots."

Besides Akash, nine other DJs including DJ Kunal are also part of the desilicious package with their own crenditions. "We have not gone by the lounge and pub brand of music here. Here every track is complete and well rounded up," Akash said.
