Uproarious scenes were witnessed today at a meeting of Uttar Bhartiya Sangh (UBS) whose President courted a controversy by making a public appeal to support Shiv Sena in the just held Assembly elections in Maharashtra.
R N Singh, UBS President, was heckled and those present at the meeting shouted slogans against him.
His son Santosh Singh was Sena candidate from Chandivali Assembly seat in Mumbai. He lost the election.
Congress leader Kripashankar Singh, a member of UBS, questioned how appeal to support a particular political party was made without approval of the outfit's Executive Committee.
UBS Executive President Sharda Prasad Singh also disapproved of R N Singh's action, saying the organisation was formed to work for welfare of the North Indian community and not indulge in politics.
R N Singh told the meeting the appeal was issued in newspapers in his personal capacity. However, the Executive Committee rejected his clarification.
