"The disasters are common in the hill state but the land compensation was very less. We have decided to increase the compensation substantially", Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna told reporters here after a review meeting of the agriculture, horticulture and medical education departments.
The CM said the land compensation to victims in hilly areas has been increased from Rs 240 per nali (land area) to Rs 2500 per nali.
In the plains, such compensation has been increased from Rs 12000 per hectare to Rs 1.25 lakh per hectare, Bahuguna said.
The CM said since both horticulture and agriculture are related departments, the government has decided to have one Secretary who will head both the departments.
He said the government would also modernize mandi samitis and make them hi-tech and introduce contract farming in the state. (more)
