"All the countries in the world today are combating terrorism. Our country is no exception. Uttarakhand, being a state located close to India's international borders, its vulnerability in terms of both external and internal security cannot be doubted.
"So our police force must send out the message of being alert and vigilant," Rawat said at a function at the police lines here to mark Police Smriti Diwas.
Rawat said the state government is committed to address problems faced by the kin of martyred police personnel and a a three-member committee headed by the Principal Secretary (Home) will soon be constituted to look into their complaints and redress them.
"The sacrifice of those who lay down their lives for their country and society cannot be forgotten. We are committed to the welfare of police personnel and their families," he said.
Noting that the state government is sensitive to the problems of police personnel, Rawat said a committee headed by Principal Secretary (Finance) has been set up to look into pay hike issues of Police Insepctors, sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors.
