Former Union Minister V Narayanasamy has been made the in-charge of Congress affairs in North Eastern states, replacing Luizinho Faleiro, who was yesterday appointed the PCC chief of Goa.

The decision to appoint Narayanasamy, a former AICC General Secretary, as in-charge of Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim, Manipur and Meghalaya is the first instance of the party accommodating a minister from the erstwhile UPA government at the Centre in organisational affairs ever since Congress lost in the Lok Sabha polls.

With his appointment as the Goa PCC chief yesterday, former Chief Minister Faleiro became the first AICC general secretary to be shifted from the party headquarters to look after his home state.

The decisions come at a time when a reshuffle of the AICC is due, which could see a number of general secretaries being given responsibilities in their home states.

Sources in AICC have been maintaining that the reshuffle could happen any time after the upcoming Assembly elections.

While Maharashtra and Haryana are going to polls on October 15, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir are likely to have Assembly elections by the year-end.
