A man walking along the track and a woman guard of a local train were run over and killed at the same spot by separate trains within a span of a few minutes in Howrah district today, South Eastern Railways officials said.
The man, stated to be a vagabond, was hit by the local Down train from Midnappore on a bridge over Bhartapa canal between Uluberia and Phuleshwar stations at around 11:30 AM.
As the train stopped on the bridge after hitting him, its guard Masura Khatoon (25) got down and walked towards the driver's cabin to enquire when she was knocked down by a speeding express train from behind, the officials said.
The local train was on down track and she had taken the middle track. She was hit by by Baripada-Shalimar Express and died on the spot.
Both the vagabond and the woman guard fell down from the bridge in the canal.
Train services were disrupted for sometime due to the accident.
The local train was halted at Phuleswar station due to the non-availability of guard, the officials said.
