"I appeal to all to extend support for the November 12 strike over the CHOGM issue. Come forward to block rail network across Tamil Nadu, down shutters of shops, let vehicles not commute but for essential needs like medical urgency," Vaiko said in a statement.
The Tamil Nadu Federation of Traders Associations (an umbrella body of retail traders of commodities) had announced a general strike on November 12. While shops affiliated to it would be shut, agitations would be held by retailers in all important towns in the state, the trade body had said.
Meanwhile, cadres of the actor turned politician R Sarath Kumar-led Samathuva Makkal Katchi held demonstrations in various parts of the state today, including Chennai, Tirunelveli and Tiruchi.
Also, workers of a pro-Tamil outfit "Aadhi Tamizhar Peravai" held demonstrations in several places today.
In Kumbakonam and Puducherry, advocates blocked railway lines and held protest demonstrations.
