The ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were immersed in Cauvery river by Karnataka BJP leaders today.
The urn containing the ashes was taken in a procession from the party headquarters in the city to the temple town of Srirangapatna, about 130 km from here, and immersed in the Cauvery at Paschima Vahini, BJP said.
The "asthi visarjan" (immersion of ashes) was attendedby state BJP president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa,Union Minister Ananth Kumar, former deputy chief minister RAshoka and MP Shobha Karandlaje among others.
Earlier, the urn containing the ashes of the BJP stalwart, who passed away on August 16, was brought to city from Delhi yesterday by Yeddyurappa and other partyleaders.
The BJP has also planned to conduct 'asthi visarjan' eventat seven places across the state on August 25.
This is in line with party's decision to take out the 'Asthi Kalash Yatra' in all states, so thatall people could offer their tributes to the 93-year old popularleader, who died after a prolonged illness.
On August 26, a condolence meeting will be held here, the party said.
