Tamil Nadu Government has undertaken an exercise to validate the bank accounts of farmers for depositing the relief assistance announced by Chief Minister K Palaniswami, a senior Revenue Department official said today.
Soon after assuming office Palaniswami ordered remittance of Rs 2,247 crore as farm input relief assistance to bank accounts to 32 lakh farmers who suffered losses due to drought conditions.
"The government has announced farm input subsidy of Rs 2,247 crore as relief. We are taking steps to ensure that farmers get the subsidy directly in their bank accounts. We have taken up the validation exercise, very carefully", Commissioner of Revenue Administration, K Satyagopal said.
He was here to take part in the conference 'Monsoons 2016' organised by Indian Meteorological Society, Chennai and Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.
On the completion of validation exercise, he said, "we expect it to get completed in two days. Even if there is a spelling mistake, it may not get validated. So we are doing it very carefully".
"After the validation exercise, steps will be taken so that the money directly reaches the farmer's bank account", he said.
According to a survey conducted by revenue and agriculture department, the relief amount would be disbursed to 32,30,191 farmers who had suffered crop losses in about 50,34,237 acres due to drought conditions.
