Varanasi explosives haul: One held

Police today arrested one person in connection with the recovery of 145 kgs of highly explosive ammonium nitrate from an abandoned car two weeks ago in Dafi area here.
Jitendra Chauhan, a native of Allahabad, was arrested in connection with the recovery of three bags filled with ammonium nitrate in a car on June 14, said SP (City) Sudhakar Yadav.
"The main person known to be supplier of the explosives has been arrested and efforts are on to nab the driver of the car and other persons involved in the case," he said.
The explosives were meant for mining purposes in Bihar, said Shalini, the Circle Officer.

A security alert was issued after the recovery of the ammonium nitrate.
The city had witnessed bomb blasts a few years ago in which ammonium nitrate was used.
