Earlier, he said the to-be launched outfit will give due importance to women and the youth and will come to the streets to fight for people's issues.

Vasan, while quiting Congress on November three faulting the central observer's role in the state unit, had said that his soon to be launched party will be "committed to democracy and secularism."

Vasan said he took the decision after taking feedback from "lakhs of party workers."

Following this, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President E V K S Elangovan urged him to be not the "prodigal son" and wanted him to return to the party.

"I have great regard for your father (late G K Moopanar). You are the pet child of the Congress party. Still, if you don't reverse your decision, I have the only option of wishing you well," he had said.
