A group of students from Bangladesh, studying at Visva Bharati, today staged a street play to express solidarity with the 'Shahabag' movement in Dhaka.
The students, holding placards, assembled in the varsity compound and staged a street play and announced that they would take out a rally in Santiniketan tomorrow demanding strictest punishment for the '1971 war criminals.'
Around 100 students and scholars study at Visva Bharati, comprising a major chunk of foreign students in the central university.
Bangladesh was rocked by a spiral of violence that claimed 80 lives since the conviction of Islamist leaders for 1971 war crimes.
Violence in the country escalated on Thursday when a death sentence was handed down to 73-year-old Delwar Hossain Sayedee, vice-president of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), by International Crimes Tribunal.
