Featuring actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the lead, the HBO show will end its run in the next installment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"It became clear that this season should be the last season. We don't want to repeat ourselves or wear out our welcome. The story has a finality to it that feels end-of- series," Louis-Dreyfus said.
The actor, who plays the vain and selfish Selina Meyer in the show and exec produces it, said even fellow executive producer David Mandel agreed with the decision.
The actor has won five consecutive Emmys for outstanding lead actress for her performance and is up for a sixth this year.
