"The vehicle and the weapons, including an automatic rifle and a pistol, used in the incident have been recovered," said UP DGP Javeed Ahmad.
"The focus now is on arresting the criminals," he added.
Ahmed said police was investigating the crime from different angles and a team of forensic experts have been sent to collect evidences.
"As far as background of the incident is concerned, we are working on two-three theories. There was an encounter two-three years back which revolves around rivalry. There is another angle related to a family, where triple murder case took place," said Ahmad.
The attackers, who were chased by police, however, managed to escape from the spot.
Police said that at least 100 rounds were fired from AK-47 rifles.

Police have detained few persons including a woman constable for interrogation.
"Few persons have been detained for interrogation. Police got some clue from their statements which will help in nabbing
The criminals," said Additional DGP (Law and order) Daljit Chowdhary.
"A lady constable named Sunita has also been detained.Her husband, gangster Rakesh Hasanpuria was killed in a police encounter in 2003. She had then held Teotia responsible for her husband's death. She is being questioned for the long-standing feud between them," Chowdhary said.

Meanwhile, SSP KS Emmanuel told reporters that one AK-47 rifle, two 9 mm pistols and two magazines of cartridges were found in a bag that two of the assailants had left behind while being chased by the police.
He said right after the incident, police had cordoned off the entire area and launched a combing operation to nab the assailants bu the duo managed to flee in an autorickshaw while firing at the police team.
The SSP said heavy police force has been deployed in the district in the aftermath of the incident.
