Verbal duel between Bains brothers, treasury benches

Independent MLA Simarjit and Balwinder Singh Bains today had a heated exchange of words with the Speaker of Punjab Assembly and members of treasury benches on SYL issue.
After the special session of Punjab Assembly started here on the issue of SYL, Simarjit sought to present a private Bill on the water issue which was rejected by the Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, saying it cannot be taken up today because of being emergency session.
With MLA remained adamant on his demand, Speaker told the teo brothers, Simarjit and Balwinder, that he should understand the procedure of the House.
After the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Mohan Mittal moved the official resolution, seeking to give directions to the state government for taking up the matter with the Centre for levying royalty on the release of water, Balwinder, brother of Simarjit demanded that the state should seek cost of water instead of royalty.
Both brothers are part of Awaaz-e-Punjab, floated by former BJP Rajya Sabha member Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Participating in the discussion on the resolution, Simarjit demanded that a sum of Rs 15 lakh crore should be sought from Rajasthan for supplying water since 1965.

The two brothers even hit out at the state government for handing over the SYL matter to a "junior lawyer" to fight in Supreme Court, prompting the revenue minister Bikram Majithia to launch an offensive against the two Bains brothers and said that they were no concerned at all on water issue and "misleading" the House.
Majithia accused Bains brothers of engaging into talks with Congress and AAP for "fixing a deal" in view of coming polls.
When BJP MLA's Manoranjan Kalia started speaking on the SYL issue, Bains continuously demanded more time from Speaker to allow him to speak.
Kalia while speaking on SYL matter demanded that the state should seek cancellation of Indus water treaty.
Kalia said that after the Indus water treaty in 1960, 80 per cent water went to Pakistan while 20 per cent remained with Punjab.
After Kalia finished with his address, Bains supported the resolution moved by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Then both brothers reached the Well of the House and asked the Speaker to accept their resignations. To which Atwal said they should tender their resignations letters in his office.
Then a verbal duel took place between Bains brothers and Akali MLAs Virsa Singh Valtoha and Bikram Majithia.
Majithia even accused bothers of even demanding ministerial posts and CPS post during last polls while Valtoha alleged that both brothers were into "making deals".
Both brothers then hurled their resignations letters when they were standing in the Well of the House.
