The jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a German man who is accused of killing his 91-year-old socialite wife.
The verdict is expected to be announced today. Prosecutors say 49-year-old Albrecht Muth was motivated by money when he beat and strangled Viola Drath to death in 2011. Drath was a German journalist who had longtime connections in Washington's diplomatic and social circles.
She was found dead in the bathroom of the couple's posh row home in Washington. Muth said his wife died from a fall in the bathroom, but authorities said her injuries were not consistent with someone who had fallen.
Muth's lawyers argued there was no evidence connecting him to the killing and said prosecutors' case was circumstantial.
