Vessel develops engine failure, hits wharf

A container vessel developed engine failure and hit the wharf while berthing at the International Container Transhipment Terminal at Valarpadam here today.
There was a slight damage to the vessel M V Lal Bhadur Shastri but no one was injured, DP World, which is operating the terminal, said in a statement.
"The terminal operations are running smoothly and vessel schedules are unaltered," CEO K K Krishnadas said.
"DP World's goal is zero accident with safety as a business-wide issue at the heart of all our operations. Our policies meet and exceed national health and safety legislation in the markets in which we operate," the statement said.
