Veteran artiste Gloria Mohanty passes away

Veteran theatre, serial and cine artiste Gloria Mohanty passed away last night at the age of 83.
A multi-faceted personality, who had excelled in sports, singing, dancing and acting died while undergoing treatment for brain stroke at a private hospital here. She is survived by her husband Kamala Prasad Mohanty and four children, including two sons.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, while hundreds of cine artistes paid their last respects to the popular artiste at her Tulasipur residence here.
The mortal remains of the grand old woman of Odiya film industry was consigned to the flames at Satichoura crematorium here today.
Starting her career as a singer in All India Radio (AIR), Gloria began acting in Odiya films in 1949 when she was offered a significant role in "Shree Jagannath."
During an acting stint spread of over six decades, she acted in over a hundred films and TV serials and was a popular screen granny.
Winners of several awards and honours including the prestigious Jayadev award and Sangit Natak Academy award, Gloria had represented the state in women's volleyball championships at national levels for over five years.
