Inaugurated by animal right activist Maneka Gandhi today, Vets Now, located at near the community centre in Yusuf Sarai, is one of the very few pet clinics in the capital that provide emergency care treatment with an operation theatre, blood bank and other special facilities.
"We needs more such clinics since we do not have many speciality clinics treating animal diseases and ailments," Maneka Gandhi said.
Elaine Stewart, one of the doctors at the clinic, said, "We would invite Indian veterinary doctors here for consultations and training also, we need to generate a lot of awareness about treatment of animals in India."
The clinic will also be providing treatment to animals injured in accidents, she said.
"India has a lot of street pets, like dogs and birds and I find a lot of people voluntarily taking care of them, we wish to provide them with subsidised medical care, if they are brought to us by some one" said Stewart, who is on her first trip to India.
Pet owners will have to pay a consultation fee of around Rs 600 to get their pets diagnosed and treated, which will include services like ultra-sonography and radiography.
The pet clinic will allow a 50 per cent concession for street animals, an official at the clinic said.
