Senior district administration officials said the team collected carcasses of some dead animals which are likely to be taken to Guwahati for medical tests to find the reason behind the deaths.

Meanwhile, another over 100 cows and goats have lost their lives in areas around Sualkuchi, particularly the villages of Srihati, Bathan and Bamundi since yesterday.

While the real reason behind the deaths, which has created panic in the area, remains unknown, officials suspect that the cattle have consumed some poisonous weeds and grass which have been deposited by flood waters during recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Kamrup Rural Deputy Commissioner S K Roy held a meeting with senior district officials to take stock of the situation.

The DC is likely to visit the Sualkuchi area tomorrow. He will be taking along a medical team with him.
