Vice Admiral visits STP of the academy

Vice Admiral A R Karve, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, who is on a visit as part of the annual inspection of Indian Naval Academy (INA) here today visited the Sewage Treatment plant (STP) at the academy.
Karve was appraised of the plant's operation and the ongoing protest by some members of the public outside Payyanur Gate, an INA release said.
Karve was was also told about the issues raised by the residents of Ramanthali Village, living near the area close to the STP, it said.
Officials told him that INA has appointed Provident Water Energy, atechnology firm recognised by Kerala State Pollution Control Board, to conduct a complete and thorough audit of the whole Sewage Treatment Systems at INA.
The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief directed the authorities at INA to implement all measures that is required to bring the present STP on par with the latest technology available in this field and in the least possible time, it added.
The local residents of Ramanthali have been staging protests outside the academy's gate, demanding the shifting of the STP which they said is contaminating their ground water wells.
Leaders of different political parties, including the Congress and BJP, visited the protesting residents to express their solidarity.
