Vidarbha were 227 for four after Faiz Fazal shone with a sedate century on the first day of their Group B Ranji Trophy cricket match against Maharashtra here today.
At stumps, Fazal was batting on 110 and giving him company was Ravi Jangid, who was yet to open his account at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground.
Shalabh Shrivastava contributed 63 runs off 213 balls, hitting six boundaries.
Fazal found the fence 14 times in his 247-ball knock.
Fazal and Shrivastava were involved in a 157-run fourth-wicket partnership after the hosts lost three wickets with 70 runs on the board.
Skipper Subramaniam Badrinath made 27 off 98 balls and hit three fours and a six before being dismissed by Anupam Sanklecha.
For Maharashtra, Shrikant Mundhe and Sanklecha picked up two wickets apiece.
