Supporters of a separate Vidarbha State today staged a 'dharna' in front of the residence of the local MP to press for their demand.
Activists of Vidarbha Rajya Nirman Samiti and Nav Rajya Nirman Mahasangh staged a joint sit-in in front of the house of Bhavana Gawali, Shiv Sena MP from Yavatmal-Washim, to press for their demand to grant statehood to the region in Eastern Maharashtra.
Over 50 activists participated in the dharna and later met Gawali, whose party has been consistently opposing the Vidarbha statehood demand, and submitted a memorandum.
Ajay Chamedia, a prominent pro-Vidarbha leader, said the statehood supporters will stage 'dharna' in front of residences of all the MPs from the region.
