Vigilance Investigation Bureau Wednesday caught red-handed a MGNREGA programme officer while accepting a bribe of Rs 2.57 lakh in Bihar's Saharsa district.
Vigilance sleuths arrested one Rajiv Ranjan, programme officer,MGNREGA, posted at Sonbarsa block in Saharsa district, while accepting a bribe of Rs 2.57 lakh for releasing muster roll and funds, a department release said.
Ranjan was also holding additional charge of programme officer, MGNREGA, of Simri Bakhtiyarpur block in the district.
One Rajesh Kumar Yadav, a resident of Sarauja village under Simri Bakhtiyarpur police station, had lodged a complaint with the vigilance bureau regarding demand of bribe by the officer.
The complaint was verified by the bureau which found the allegations to be true after which a team was constituted under deputy superintendent of police Gopal Paswan, who raided and arrested Rajiv Ranjan while accepting a bribe of Rs 2.57 lakh from his rented accommodation located at Kayasth Tola in Saharsa town.
The Vigilance sleuths also recovered another Rs 1.93 lakh from his accommodation during the search.
