Vigilance sleuths to receive complaints via WhatsApp

After receiving complaints of corruption through Facebook posts, the Vigilance directorate in Odisha will expand the facility to the another social networking site, WhatsApp.
State vigilance director K B Singh said the complaints on corruption would now be received in the WhatsApp account of the directorate.
Singh said after launching the Facebook page of the Directorate in May this year, the department has received several complaints and FIRs have been registered in six of them and investigations have also been initiated.
"We are going to extend the same facility in the WhatsApp account to curb corruption," Singh said.
Singh hoped the tech-savvy youth of the state would now be more involved in helping the government to curb corruption by use of the social media.

He said the identities of the informers would be kept secret.

Meanwhile a team of anti-corruption bureau of the Gujarat Police led by IGP Shamsher Singh, completed its two day visit to the state vigilance directorate here today.
The team had come here to study the practices followed by the vigilance sleuths leading to registration and detection of large number of corruption cases.
The Odisha vigilance department had registered 368 corruption cases in 2014 against various government employees, including high-ranking officials.
The investigations into it have led to confiscation and attachment of properties in disproportionate asset cases.
