Haryana Minister Anil Vij today said he has recommended to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to rename the sports complexes in the state named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
"I have recommended to Chief Minister to rename the sports complexes named after former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports Complexes," the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister said in the evening.
Earlier, in the day, Vij made this announcement through his tweet in which he mentioned about this recommendation to Haryana CM.
He said that there are total 226 sports complexes in the state, of which 159 are complete while rest are under construction.
Vij said that Abhay Singh Sandhu, nephew of martyr Bhagat Singh had been demanding to name projects after the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev for quite some time.
"I completely support this demand raised by nephew of martyr Bhagat Singh and taking inspiration from the same, I give my recommendation in this regard to the CM," he said.

Asked whether there is any provision in the rules for renaming the project's name, Vij said that the state government could rename the projects. "There is no problem in this regard as these are state projects," he noted.
Notably, Vij had raised this matter in the Assembly during budget session last month whereby he had said that he would consider to rename the rural sports complexes named after former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi.
It led protest from the opposition Congress which even boycotted the proceedings for the rest of the day and had even asked the ruling members to tender an apology for "insulting" national leaders.
Then on this issue, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the House had said, "the state government will only change anything if there is a provision under the rules and if the rules won't allow, then it will not take such a step.
