YSR Congress Chief YS Vijayamma today met BJP President Rajnath Singh and sought his party's support for their stand on the issue of a separate Telangana state in the wake of popular protests over the Centre's decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
During the meeting that lasted about 20 minutes, Vijayamma, who was accompanied by other party leaders, handed over a memorandum to Rajnath Singh on the bifurcation issue.
But asked about any possibility of the two parties joining hands ahead of Lok Sabha elections, she said the time was not right to talk about alliances as AP was burning.
Vijayamma requested the BJP Chief to stick to an earlier resolution by LK Advani that AP should be bifurcated either through a state Assembly resolution or by the second States Reorganisation Commission.
YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy is on a fast against the bifurcation of the state and is urging the Centre against dividing AP.
YSR Congress MP Rajamohan Reddy said, "He (Singh) knows everything about AP. Though they (BJP) are in favour of Telangana, the way things are happening in AP, they, too, are unhappy.
"We came to keep the state of AP united. That is the only programme we have and we are meeting leaders of all political parties," he added.
Responding to speculation over future alliances, Rajamohan also said, "We never discussed any politics".
