"It is not skill alone. The chemistry between the driver and the tuner resulted in my win with good margin," he said after the race, adding, "as a driver I address my car problems to my father (Shanmugam), who is the tuner."
Qualifying on the pole by two seconds ahead of others, Saran got in to the business straight away. Despite missing the start, Saran was behind Vishnu Prasad in a packed 22 cars on the grid but managed to forge ahead going past the second corner at the MMST track near suburban Sriperumbudur.
However, the race was "red flagged" as two cars (Akhil Devrag and Sudanand Rajan) spun off the track during the first lap. The drivers followed the safety car for reminder of the first lap.
At the re-start of the race, Saran was on the mark and then took a commendable lead over his followers. Saran won the race with a total time of 20:03.725 seconds in the ten lap race. Saran also posted a best lap timing of 1:57.781 seconds touching a speed of 113.6 km/h.
Another well known driver, Ashwin Sundar of Dark Don Racing came second and Karthik Krishna of Wallace Sport finished third.
Ashwin, who had stressful run up to the season having to experience problems in his car in the four races that were held in Coimbatore, started on fourth on pole but maneuvered his way up to finish second clocking 20:12.678 secs and Karthik took 20:17.17 seconds for third place.
The race was replete of charges on the red flagging decision by the Official.
"In the first place, the red flag was totally unnecessary since the two cars that had gone off the track were not on racing line and posed no threat to others," a furious Ashwin charged at the post-race Media conference. MORE
