The police fired 15 rounds and lobbed around 25 teargas shells, in which two villagers sustained bullet injuries on their legs, Kheda District Superitendent of Police Sachin Badshah said.
"The incident occured today when two policemen went to Apruji-na-Muvada village of Kathlal taluka here after a complaint that some thieves had intruded into the village. After they reached there, villagers confined them for around two hours, demanding that police set up their temporary deployment ourside the village," Badshah told PTI.
It seemed like a pre-meditated attack since villagers blocked roads to the village by putting up obstacles of trees so that police vehicles could not enter the village, he said.
"After around two hours, another police team managed to reach the village but the villagers went on attacking the police, due to which the police fired around 15 rounds in the air as well as lobbed around 25 teargas shells", he said.
Seven policemen recived injuries in the attack by the villagers, while around two villagers sustained bullet injuries and were shifted to hospital, he said.
