The villagers demanded immediate arrest of the motorcyclist responsible for the death of the woman and injuring seven others near Chutabebia village last evening and adequate compensation to the victim's family, the police said.
The villagers hurled bricks at the police, who arrived at the spot to pursue them to withdraw the agitation, Superintendent of Police, Prabhat Kumar said adding the police had to fire three rounds in the air to disperse the agitators.
The firearms were, however, recovered soon when adequate police force arrived to clear the blockade, he said.
Kumar an FIR has been lodged against eight persons and 70 others for rioting and obstructing government officials from discharging their duties.
