Tension prevailed at Palar, on inter-state border in the district, after a 100-strong crowd of villagers ransacked police and forest check posts of Karnataka and set them afire, protesting the death of a man in alleged firing by forest personnel of the neighbouring state.
Police said the body of 40-year old Palani, feard dead after Karnatka forest personnel allegedly opened fire on a five-member group of hunters yesterday, was found washed ashore on the banks of Cauvery river near Palar today.
The five from border villages had gone into Karnatka forest area to hunt deer when the alleged firing took place. Another person was injured in the firing, it was stated.
