Pro-Maharashtra supporters and outfits today re-erected a controversial sign board at Yellur in the district claiming that the village was part of the neighbouring state.
Residents re-erected "Maharashtra Rajya-Yellur" concrete sign board, after the previous one was razed to ground by Public Works Department under police protection on Friday, police said. The PWD had taken action following a High Court direction.
Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram said legal action would be taken against miscreants and those "involved indirectly", apparently referring to some leaders.
In reaction to the Friday incident, some miscreants at Kolhapur in Maharashtra had damaged Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses there by pelting stones.
KSRTC have suspended bus services to Kolhapur. However, KSRTC is plying long route busses in Maharshtra, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Pravinkumar informed PTI.
Situation in Yellur village is under control, the police said.
The action of pro-Maharashtra groups evoked condemnation and protests by some Kannada outfits in Bangalore.
The outfits, led by Kannada Chaluvali (movement) leader Vatal Nagaraj, burnt an effigy symbolising Shiv Sena, whom it blamed for the attack on state buses at Kolhapur.
