The search for a director of "Furious 8" has been on for some time since James Wan, who helmed "Furious 7", chose not to return for the eighth installment.
Diesel, 48, shared a lengthy post of Facebook quoting his mother's suggestion for him to turn director, said The Hollywood Reporter.
"I will share something crazy that my mother said six months ago after the studio had me announce the date for 8 to the world... 'Either you direct 8 yourself... Or don't do it.
The franchise regular also suggested that he wants Rob Cohen, who helmed the first installment to come back for the "Furious 8" slated for 2017 release.
